My practice is inspired by the natural world and its inhabitants. Working primarily on cotton textiles, I employ batik techniques to create layered, patterned surfaces that reflect the rhythms and structures I observe in nature. Much of my subject matter is drawn directly from my local ecosystems - plants, animals, and natural forms encountered through personal observation. By grounding my work in these experiences, I aim to capture not only the outward appearance of the natural world but also its vitality and interconnectedness.
The purpose of my practice is to produce engaging representations of plants and animals as a way of further investigating the environment around me. Nature has been a constant presence throughout my life, shaping my perspective and inspiring my creativity. Through my work, I seek to share these encounters with audiences who may or may not have the opportunity to interact with nature directly, offering them a chance to reflect on its importance and beauty.
Central to my practice is illustrating the connections I have discovered within ecosystems. I am fascinated by relationships across scales - from the microscopic structures of cells to the vast landscapes they form part of. Experimenting with batik allows me to explore these connections visually, layering wax and dye to mirror the complexity of natural systems. Each piece becomes both an investigation and an invitation, encouraging viewers to consider how they perceive the natural world and to reflect on their own relationship with it.
