AT THE MEADOWS EDGE - 'CLEARING' workshop
In September, I collaborated with fellow artist Meera Osborne on the workshop Clearing, part of the wider project At The Meadows Edge by Turf Projects, Croydon. I contributed by promoting the event through social media and assisting in the making and installation of natural-dyed fabric screens. These screens formed a “cocoon” where participants could gather for the day’s activities - a focused, intimate space within the forest that remained integrated into its surroundings.
We suspended the fabric between trees and weighed it down with felled branches from Addington Hill’s forest. This installation method grounded the work in its environment and extended my exploration of expanded approaches to display. It also prompted me to consider how my practice can serve practical purposes beyond the gallery, particularly within workshops and participatory contexts.
Through this collaboration, I reflected on how textile-based work can shape environments and facilitate collective experiences. The cocoon became both a shelter and a symbolic structure, embodying intimacy, integration, and connection to place. This project has informed my practice by highlighting new possibilities for installation and the ways meaning and symbolism can be embedded in communal settings.
