I make drawings and prints inspired by animals and their habitats. I create drawings using pencils. I also create prints using both silkscreen and relief printing techniques. I tend to draw and print on plain paper of A3 size and smaller. I often base my work on subjects I have seen myself, both live specimens in nature and taxidermy in historical gallery settings.
The purpose of my art practice is to create interesting representations of plants and animals as a means of further investigating the natural world surrounding me. I choose to investigate the natural world because I have spent a large part of my life interacting with nature and wish to share what I have experienced with an audience – who may or may not have the opportunity to interact with nature.
Illustrating the connections I have found between aspects of nature and experimenting with the various techniques used to portray them, encourages my audience to consider how they view, and their personal relationship with, the natural world around them.
